UAPB sweeps Oklahoma Panhandle State 3-0 in non-conference baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions swept Oklahoma Panhandle State University three games to zero in non-conference action at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex. UAPB generated a 5-1 victory in game one, an 11-1 blowout in game two and another 5-1 victory to close the series.


Here's how the action played out in the series:


Game 1-UAPB 5, Oklahoma Panhandle 1

UAPB broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with four runs as Sergio "El Magico" Esparza produced a RBI single to center field that brought in Ryan Mallison for a 1-0 lead. Then Nick Kreutzer generated a RBI double to right field that brought in Esparza. JP Soriano also scampered across home plate to extend the lead to 3-0. Later in the inning, Sanchez hit a RBI single that scored Kreutzer.

Oklahoma Panhandle scored its only run in the top of the fifth, but the Golden Lions added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Kreutzer produced a RBI single to center field that once again brought home Soriano for the 5-1 victory.

UAPB pitcher Peyton Burks (2-4) was credited with the victory as he went the distance and struck out six batters, and allowed one run and four hits in 9.0 innings of work. Adrian Lopez of Oklahoma Panhandle picked up the loss as he struck out two UAPB batters.

Soriano finished 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs while teammate Kreutzer finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Fellow Golden Lion Sanchez also finished 2-for-4 from the plate with one RBI.


Game 2-UAPB 11, Oklahoma Panhandle 1

The Golden Lions wasted no time and quickly jumped out on top with three runs in the opening inning as Sergio "El Magico" Esparza produced a RBI double to left field that allowed Jarficur Parker to touch home plate. Moments later, Daulton Horton generated a two RBI double that brought in both Nick Kreutzer and Esparza.

Oklahoma Panhandle scored its only run in the top of the second, but UAPB roared back, scoring four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Bradly Lopez got in on the action when he hit a RBI single to center field that scored Horton. Ryan Mallison then produced a two RBI double to center field that scored both Larry Sims and Ricardo Sanchez. Horton later picked up a RBI single and yet again brought home Kreutzer.

UAPB pitcher Tyrus Lopez (6-2) was credited with the victory as he gave up one earned run and five hits in 7.0 innings of work while Oklahoma Panhandle's Corey Ley picked up the loss.

Jarficur Parker finished 3-for-4 with one hit and one RBI while fellow Golden Lion Kreutzer went 2-for-3 with with three runs. Horton finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

As at team the Golden Lions produced 12 hits and gave up just five to its opponent. UAPB finished with one error while Oklahoma Panhandle finished with two.


Game 3-UAPB 5, Oklahoma Panhandle 1

UAPB broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning with three runs when Daulton Horton generated a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Nick Kreutzer. Jarficuar Parker then produced a two RBI single that scored both Ricardo Sanchez and JP Soriano

Oklahoma Panhandle scored its only run in the top of the fifth inning, but UAPB closed the door on any comeback attempt with two more runs in the sixth when Sergio Esparza hit a RBI triple that scored Ryan Mallison, then "El Magico" eventually came home on a passed ball.

As a team the Golden Lions produced just three hits while Oklahoma Panhandle finished with a total of four.


UAPB (16-17, 9-7 SWAC) returns to action on Tuesday, April 24 as it plays host to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
