PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff held its annual Homecoming week this past week in Pine Bluff.
Several events were held throughout the week including: UAPB Day at Full Counsel Church, a Gospel Extravaganza, a Golden Lion Festival in conjunction with 'Trunk or Treat', Jazz in the Cafe, a Mister and Miss UAPB Coronation Ceremony, a Pride Palace Ball, an Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament, a Golden Lion Pep Rally, a block party, a bonfire, an Annual Alumni Assembly, an Alumni Awards Luncheon, a Divine Nine Cookout, an Alumni Exclusive Wine, Cheese and Shopping, an Alumni Hall of Fame Banquet, a Homecoming Comedy Showcase featuring comedians Don DC Curry, DC Young Fly, J Jones and Nephew Tommy, the annual Homecoming Parade, pre-game tailgating festivities, and a new "Golden Lion Pride Walk" that was introduced by new Director of Athletics Melvin J. Hines II.
"As we begin to build pride in our athletic program, especially with our football program, we want to make sure that we are getting everybody excited," said Hines II. "We want people excited about homecoming, excited about football, and excited about UAPB athletics in general."
The walk started at the entrance of the Simmons Bank Field parking lot on University Drive and ended at the J. Thomas May Field House. A similar walk was held in previous years at UAPB but hasn't been done in years, so new administration decided to implement the new tradition for Homecoming.
Following the walk was the highly anticipated Homecoming Game as the Golden Lions hosted Alabama A&M in Southwestern Athletic Conference action, but the Bulldogs played the role of spoilers on the beautiful afternoon in front of nearly 14,000 people at Simmons Bank Field. Prior to kickoff, special guest Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson was on board for the coin toss, and a total of 17 seniors were honored on Senior Day.
