HOUSTON, TEXAS (March 19) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team avoided the three-game sweep by Texas Southern with a 14-11 win over Tigers, here Sunday afternoon at McGregor Park.

UAPB finished the contest with 14 hits, whereas TSU finished with 17.

Both
Julian Jones and
Sergio Esparza finished the contest with three hits apiece to lead the Golden Lions from the plate.

Lucca Gaudencio and Gerrek Jimenez finished the contest with three hits apiece to lead TSU.

C.J. Lewington (1-2) picked up the win for the Golden Lions. He gave up five hits, two earned runs and struck out two in his four and one-third innings in relief.Â
Tyrus Lopez the UAPB starter, gave up 10 hits, six earned runs and struck out one in the four and one-third innings of work.Â

Daniel Vasquez (1-3) received the loss for TSU. He gave up five hits, six earned runs and struck out five in the three and two-third innings of work.

UAPB jumped out to a 3-0 lead with the Golden Lions recording homers in their half of the second inning and the third inning.Â
Jaylen Jackson recorded a two-run shot in the second and Esparza with a solo shot in the top of the third.

TSU cut UAPB's lead to 3-2 with the Tigers scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning.Â

The Golden Lions increased their lead to 6-2 in the top of the fourth inning with both
Jordan Knox and Esparza scoring on a Jackson double the left field line. Then Esparza would then score on a Jones single to right field.

UAPB would increase their lead to 13-2 with the Golden Lions plating seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.

TSU would answer in the bottom of the fifth with the Tigers scoring seven runs in the inning cutting UAPB's lead to 13-9.Â
The Tigers then pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 13-11 in favor of the Golden Lions.

In the top of the eighth inning,
Corey Henderson increased the Golden Lions lead to 14-11 with his homer to left field for the final run of the contest.
