Birmingham, Ala.- University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball Team celebrated winning the 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Western Division Title with Prairie View A&M splitting a doubleheader with Texas Southern University.
UAPB finishes the season 16-6 in conference play, whereas TSU finished the season 16-7, giving the Golden Lions a half-game advantage crowning them divisional champions. The Golden Lions are currently 23-16 overall.
The 2015 season will be a season to remember for UAPB baseball fans with the Golden Lions, capturing their second consecutive Western Division Championship, finishing the season with 20-plus wins for the fifth time in school history. This is the third consecutive 20-plus win season for the Golden Lions under head coach
Carlos James.
In addition, this is the fourth time in school history that UAPB baseball team finished over .500 in 39 seasons. The last the Golden Lions finished season over 500 was 1976 with a record of 26-10, when Charles D. "Pop" Spearman was the head coach.
Also this season, UAPB posted wins against South Eastern Conference powers Mississippi State and Missouri and recorded wins against Kansas of the Big 12 Conference and Louisiana Tech of Conference USA.
The Golden Lions will return to action on Thursday, May 7 against Alcorn State in a non-conference matchup in a 3 p.m. start at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
