Birmingham, AL. -- For the first time this season, junior pitcher Blake ESTEP (Choctaw, Okla./Seward County CC) was named the SWAC pitcher of the week, as announced by the conference yesterday.
ESTEP excelled in Saturday's contest versus the University of New Orleans. He would go on to pitch a complete game, thoroughly dominating the home team.Â
ESTEP picked up two wins this past week. Â He helped upset No. 23 Missouri 8-3 and earned the 8-3 win over New Orleans. Â He pitched 14.1 innings, allowing just three earned runs and striking out 11.
With the wins ESTEP improved to (3-2) on the season.
The Golden Lions face Texas Southern in conference showdown Friday at 1:00 pm and Saturday at 1:00 pm in a three games series which could move UAPB ahead in first place in the Western Division of the SWAC conference.
