Box Score Pine Bluff, AR.- The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff(UAPB) baseball team drop game one double header 5-4, but stormed back in game two to pitch a shutout 3-0 against Prairie View Panthers.
With the split, UAPB is 1-1 in conference play this season, while Prairie View is 1-1.
In game one, UAPB fell to Prairie View by a 5-4 score.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the first inning, as
Dominique Harris hit a three run home run to start the game.
The Lions answered back in the bottom of the second with
Kirby Campbell single through the right side. Campbell reached on a fielder choice from
Isias Alcantar and reached third on a fly out from Mile Wieland. Campbell would score the Lions first point off a balk called on Jordan Stewart.
Prairie View then picked up a pair of runs heading into the ninth inning leading 5-2. With two outs the Lions rally started when
Isias Alcantar was walk, follow by a single from Wieland to advance Alcantar to second.
Joshua Cassidy blasted a line drive to left field scoring two runs to cut the Panthers lead 5-4, but the comeback not enough for the comeback win.
Kyle Schwartz (0-3) was the hard luck loser, allowing five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts over eight innings. At the plate, UAPB managed just seven hits, as
Kirby Campbell was 2-for-4, while
Joshua Cassidy had a team high two RBI's.
In game two, the Golden Lions pitcher
Mikey Ramirez (1-2) pitched a top pitcher performance game, going 7.1 innings, giving up six hits and seven strikeouts to pitch a shutout 3-0.
As both teams played tough defense heading into the sixth inning, UAPB answered first scoring the game only runs.
Senior
Mike Wieland opened the inning with a triple up the middle, Shawn Tillman single to right, scoring Wieland and taking credit for the RBI. UAPB would tackle on two more runs before Prairie View would have no answer to get the victory.
Redmond Floyd came in pitching one inning, striking out two and allowing no runs to pick up his first save of the season.
Isias Alcantar and
Joshua Cassidy led the game going 1 for 3, with one RBI,
Rashawn Tillman,
Mike Wieland,
Andre Davis and
Jerimiah Figueroa had one hit apiece.
The same two teams will conclude their three-game series with a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 10:00 AM.
