PINE BLUFF, AR – The UAPB Baseball team got a chance to showcase their talents in front of Major League scouts this past weekend when third-year Head Coach
Carlos James hosted "Scout Day" at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex (THBC).
The event gave pro scouts a chance to get a preview of the twenty-one "draft eligible" players on the UAPB roster prior to the start of the 2013 season. "Scout Day" consisted of the players being timed in the 60-yard dash, a defensive skill evaluation period, batting practice, and a 5 1/2 inning scrimmage with the Golden Lions draft eligible pitchers all taking the mound.
With two players signing contracts to play in the prestigious Cape Cod League this upcoming summer along with many others committed to such leagues as the Alaska Baseball League, MINK League, Prospects League, Far West League, and more, Coach James is excited at the talent-level this year's group possesses.
The Golden Lions have been in fall camp since September 21, and according to Coach James, "Scout Day" came at a great time as it hit during the midway point of workouts. The team will continue fall camp over the next three weeks which includes a game against Arkansas Baptist College on Friday, October 26 at the THBC followed by the Black and Gold Fall World Series.
