Getting To Know Wilton Guzman

Freshman Wilton Guzman joins the UAPB Golden Lions from George Washington High School in New York, New York. Guzman hit .315 and helped lead the Trojans to an overall record of 46-2, the PSAL Class A Championship, and a #10 ranking in the country by both the Easton National High School Poll and the MaxPreps Xcellent 50 National Rankings.

What made you decide to attend UAPB? The opportunity I would be given here to become a better baseball player and with God get to where I want to be.

How much different is Arkansas than New York? It is very different...much more quiet. There is not much to do like in New York, but I enjoy it because it keeps me more focused on what I have to do.

Who is your favorite MLB player? Why? My favorite player is Dustin Pedroia because even though he is a small guy he can do damage just like any of the other guys on the Red Sox.

What kind of TV shows do you like to watch? I like to watch ESPN and allot of movies.

If you were to let someone listen to your Ipod, what would they find on it? They would find allot of rap, reggae, and Spanish music.

What has been your favorite experience thus far at UAPB? The football games were great! Back in New York, I had never been to a high school or college football game, so it was real exciting.

The Golden Lions Baseball team is very diverse. How does everyone get along with each other coming from so many different parts of the country? I feel like we get along really well, and I like the fact that we are a diverse group because I learn so much about my teammates. It makes a team special when we all come from different areas and find a way to come together as a team and support one another.

What are your goals and aspirations for your next 4 years at UAPB? My goals are to stay focused in school, get good grades, and work as hard as I possibly can to help UAPB be successful and win multiple SWAC Championships.

On a scale of 1-10 rate the food here in the South. Why? Personally, I am a chicken guy. Wherever there is chicken, I am there. I love fried chicken and here I can get any type of chicken I want! It's great!!

How is living in the dorm comparable to living in New York? I mean, it is different than living at home, of course, but I can't complain about it. I have my space, and I'm living comfortable which is a great thing.

How large of a batting cage could you have built in your backyard in New York? I couldn't as I don't have a backyard at home.

Who had the greatest influence on you in high school and why? Youman Wilder...he always saw it in me that I could play even when my confidence was down. He pushed me and worked hard with me for 3 years to help me get to where I am now, and I thank him so much for that.
