PINE BLUFF, Ark.-The first game of the Black and Gold Fall World Series ended in a 2-2 tie on Friday at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
"I thought Friday's game was a great indication of the preparedness our players have been given," shared Head Coach
Carlos James. "The execution and intensity were evident in the how the game was played and ended, and I am looking forward to the remainder of the series."
The Black team struck first in the top of third. Sherman Thomas led the inning of with a walk then stole second. Following a ground and a hit batter, Thomas would score on an infield single by Soloman Williams for the early 1-0 lead.
The Gold Team tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth taking advantage of back-to-back singles by Tyler Hill and Jake Whitney. With runners on first and second, Hill stole third and later scored on an RBI-ground out by
Cornelius Williams.
In the top of the sixth, the Black Team got a lead-off hit and after two throwing errors took a 2-1 lead. However, the Gold Team would answer with a run of their own following back-to-back singles by Hill and Whitney. After
Cornelius Williams laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both Hill and Whitney, Eddie Williams hit an RBI-single scoring Hill to tie the game at 2-2.
Gold Team's Andrew Wixon and Leo Fuentes allowed only two runs in seven innings while the Black Team's Jordan Sechler and
Redmond Floyd were just as effective.
Since today's game ended in a tie, the series will now move to a best-of-three series with Game Two of the Fall World Series scheduled for Saturday at 11:30am.
