#UAPBBaseball: Golden Lions Close Out Home Stand in Style, Take Series Over Grambling 2-1

Pine Bluff, Arkansas — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions saved their best for last at home, rallying from a 4-1 deficit to defeat Grambling State 8-6 and claim the series two games to one. With the win, UAPB improves to 22-30 overall and 15-12 in conference play, keeping the Golden Lions squarely in the postseason picture as the regular season winds down.

The game was a tale of two halves. Pine Bluff's offense was largely quiet through the first six innings before erupting for seven runs in a chaotic seventh frame, turning a deficit into a commanding lead. Errors and sustained pressure from the Golden Lions lineup broke Grambling's pitching staff wide open, and UAPB never looked back.

First baseman Lazaro Alvarado was the offensive standout of the afternoon, going 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI for a jaw-dropping 1.550 OPS on the day. His single through the left side in the seventh was one of several blows that keyed the big inning. Left fielder Jose Vasquez delivered the knockout punch, ripping a bases-loaded single to right field that cleared two runners and put UAPB firmly in front for good. Vasquez finished with two hits and two RBI, slashing .750 on the afternoon in what was his finest performance of the series.

Third baseman Zach Wieder contributed a clutch RBI single in the seventh and added a stolen base to showcase his all-around game, while second baseman Aaron Grant — hitting .344 on the season — chipped in a sacrifice fly and a stolen base of his own. Shortstop Konner Giddley drew a big bases-loaded walk under pressure, and center fielder Weston Gingerich reached and scored to help set the table during the decisive rally.

On the mound, Brendan Hamlin earned his fourth win of the season with a composed relief outing, retiring hitters consistently through the final innings and keeping Grambling from mounting a serious threat. Jack Hasten provided steady bridging work through the middle frames, buying UAPB's offense the time it needed to come alive.

With the home slate now complete, the Golden Lions carry genuine momentum into the road stretch with the postseason well within reach. Saturday's comeback showed a team capable of rising to the moment — and playing its best baseball at exactly the right time.
