BIRMINGHAM, AL - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff track team concluded the first day of the SWAC Indoor Championships with a strong outing. The women's team is currently tied for third place, and the men's sit in a fifth-place tie awaiting a decisive day two on Friday.

Jaylynn Hampton has been the catalyst for the Lady Lions, capturing two first place finishes in the 60 meter hurdles with a time 8.91, and the long jump with a distance and personal best of 5.80 meters. Hampton also placed in the high jump (3rd), shot put (4th), and the 800 meter (6th).

Franklyn Stanislaus and Che Rochford set the pace for the men's team in the opening day.

Stanislaus captured a first place finish in the shot put with throw of 12.31 meters, while also placing in the high jump (2nd), long jump (4th), and 60 meter (8th). Rochford placed in the 60 meter (2nd), shot put (2nd), long jump (6th), and high jump (7th).

The second day of the indoor championship will resume on Friday, 1/17 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
