Calvin Booker is a 1979 graduate who was a four-year letterman in football. A native of Hamburg, Arkansas, he spent the majority of his collegiate career as a clutch punter and back-up quarterback. For a long time, he and two other players were in the record books with the longest punt in school’s history. After completing undergraduate school, he earned a master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University and returned to UAPB where he served in various roles for 11 years such as an assistant football coach, special assistant to the Dean of Education and director of student recruitment. He also made history within the city government ranks by becoming one of the youngest persons to be elected to the Pine Bluff City Council. He later transitioned to the corporate world and ultimately retired as a Corporate Vice President of Public Affairs at Waste Management, Inc. in Atlanta. He currently serves as chairman of the UAPB Foundation Board and holds a position on the University of Arkansas System Executive Foundation Board Committee. He also is chairman emeritus of the Corporate Round Table which is the financial arm of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, having previously served as chairman. Additionally, he serves as Vice Chairman of the Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority and as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees for the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta. He has served as President of the UAPB National Alumni Association, an achievement that earned him the National Alumni President of the Year Award from the National Black College Hall of Fame Foundation. He is also a former member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
