Anthony Lowery is a 1970 graduate who was a four-year letterman in football. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a starting offensive tackle and was named an NAIA honorable mention All-American as a senior. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education, he spent the early years of his career as a teacher and coach in the Philadelphia and New Orleans Public School systems. He coached football, boys’ basketball and track and field. He also was a part-time professor at Southern University in New Orleans and at Our Lady of Holy Cross College, mainly educating students about gambling addiction, substance abuse and counseling. He also was recognized as the most supportive and dependable professor in Southern University’s counseling program. He is a member of the Louisiana Association of Substance Abuse Counselors and Trainers, Inc., the Louisiana Behavioral Health Advisory Council, Prince Hall Grand Lodge and the Domestic Violence Advisory Council.
