BURKE COMPETES AT NCAA REGIONAL

AUSTIN, Texas - Briana Burke opened competition for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's track and field on Thursday night at the NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas.

Burke finished sixth in her flight and 29th overall out of 44 jumpers on Thursday evening as she posted a jump of 19'6.34" in the women's long jump.

The top 12 qualifiers advanced to Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA National Championship.

Burke's personal best of the season was a 20'1.34 in the Memphis Invitational.

"Briana competed well in the long jump competition, despite not advancing to national," UAPB head coach Chris McCoy said.  She had some good jumps and this will be motivation to come back stronger, make it to regional next year and advancing to national.

UAPB men's & women's track and field had eight athletes to qualify for NCAA Regional in the past four years, including NFL lineman, Terron Armstead, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints.
