Freshman: Garner Shines at SWAC Cross Country Championships

Freshman; Garner Shines at SWAC Championships

Clinton, Ms.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's cross country team placed seventh overall at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships on Friday morning at Chotaw Trails, as true freshman Wade Garner led the way for the Golden Lions, placing eight overall with a time of 26:52.19.

Following Garner was teammate Harlan Clarke in 36th place with a time of 29:45.55 and Travion Munn in 38th, completing the race in 29:53.19. Sophomore Rasheed McAlpin finished 39th with a time of 29:53.94, freshman Harry Self (29:55.51) and freshman Tryan Lyons (29:56.03) finished 40^th and 41th respectively.
By finishing in the top-10, Garner was named member of the All-SWAC Cross Country Second Team.

On the women side the Lady Lions placed eighth overall, along with all six runners to PR in the women's SWAC Cross Country meet on Friday in Clinton, Ms.
The Lady Lions were led by freshman Jada Gammage, who finished in 38^th place with a time of 21:52.21. Behind her was freshman Camiya Knight (44^th place, 22:43.83), senior Sharoya Simmons (46^th, 22:53.25).

The rest of the Lady Lions stayed in a pack and finished together in places 48^th, 51^stand 66^th. It was freshman Deandra James with a time of (23:00.16) followed by Crystal Christopher (23.28.47) and junior Salonica Hunter (26:49.71).

UAPB will now look to kickoff their indoor season Dec. 2-4 at the ASU Kickoff Klassic in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
