PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Looking to continue to add quality depth for the future, the UAPB Baseball team added eighteen commitments for the 2014 baseball season. Golden Lions Head Coach Carlos James announced a class that spans from eleven different states, plus Puerto Rico. It also features a 3rd-team Rawlings All-American and Conference Pitcher of the Year, along with multiple junior college All-Conference and high school All-Star selections.
"I am extremely excited about this class," noted James. "Coach MacMillan was able to fill our needs with as we say the 'right fit'. We were looking for quality talent and depth along with outstanding young men who possess high academic standards for excellence. In addition, these young men want to wear the Black and Gold of UAPB and continue the foundation that has been laid down by such former players as Cody De Mera, Stanten Jones, and Jake Whitney to name a few."
"As well, we have traditionally focused our recruiting efforts on filling our roster needs with junior college players, but as we continue to build our program with the visionary steps that Coach MacMillan and I began implementing over three years ago, we are excited to add five freshmen to be a part of this class and our future success."
James and the Golden Lions open the 2014 season at the University of Tulane on February 14 in New Orleans. UAPB's first nine games of the season will all be on the road before opening up conference play at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex against Prairie View A&M on March 1.
