BIRMINGHAM -- After a solid performance on Saturday night, freshman running back Jeremiah Young has been selected at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

The 6-1, 215 pound former Pine Bluff High School standout was a silver lining for the Golden Lions who suffered a tough 21-16 loss to Alcorn State on Saturday night. Young rushed for 139 yards on 21 carries. He also scored on a 46-yard touchdown run. Young has scored in each of the Golden Lions games this season.

For the season, Young is leading UAPB in rushing with 206 yards and four touchdowns on 43 carries. He has also thrown a touchdown pass. Young is second on the team in Total Offense averaging 56 yards per game.
