PINE BLUFF - The UAPB football team went through another practice in full pads as they prepare for Arkansas State Saturday at Liberty Bank Stadium at 6:00 pm. The game will be shown live on the internet on ESPN3.
With just three days to go before one of the biggest games in Golden Lions history, the atmosphere is getting "electric". Pads are popping, breaking of the huddle is louder, defensive players are flying around faster, and the offense is running on all cylinders.
Excitement is at a fever pitch. Tickets are selling like hot cakes to see the "battle of the champions (SWAC/Sun Belt)". In addition to that fact and being an in-state battle for bragging rights and the first meeting between the schools, it's a meeting between father and son. Kyle Coleman, who is a standout player on the Arkansas State defense, will be trying to help his team spoil the day for dear ole dad, UAPB head coach Monte Coleman.
But, Coach Coleman is keeping his Golden Lions focused and not wrapped up in the pre-game hype. "The Arkansas-Pine Bluff football team is ready for action", Coleman said. "Being the SWAC CHAMPIONS from last year doesn't bring any pressure on the players, the Lions are approaching this season one game at a time."
Coleman also pointed out the positive attitude of the players heading into Saturday's showdown. "The attitude of the team is great, because the importance of winning this football game keeps the program moving forward in the right direction and will open up other opportunities for the program".
Stay tuned and be sure to interact with UAPB on all social media sites coming soon.
