PINE BLUFF, Ark.- Shay Holmes’ 19 points on a 6-of-11 shooting night from the field was not enough to lift the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions to a victory over the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Lions went into halftime tied with AAMU 25 points apiece. Despite controlling the momentum and tempo of the contest in the second half UAPB was unable to close the door on a resilient Lady Bulldogs team that would not go away.
UAPB’ s Jasmine Blanks was stripped of the ball with just second left on the game clock allowing Katrich Williams a breakaway lay-up that put Alabama A&M ahead with time expiring.
“We need some players on this team to step up and play up to their full potential when it counts,” said Head Coach Cary Shelton. “This is a tough loss for our team but we’ll have to bounce back as we have a short turnaround before our next contest.”
Arkansas-Pine Bluff will return to the hardwood on Monday as they will take on Alabama State in the two teams’ final meeting of the regular season. Tip-off will take place at 5:30 pm at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
