PINE BLUFF, Ark.- With their full cast of key contributors back on the team at 100 percent the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions were able to capture a key Southwestern Athletic Conference victory over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Saturday evening.
Savalace Townsend scored 15 points while Lebaron Weathers tallied a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
The games’ outcome was never in question as UAPB maintained a double digit advantage for the majority of the second half before allowing AAMU to chip away at the lead late in the game.
“Our starters played well tonight,” said Head Coach George Ivory. “I was pleased with the intensity we started the game with in the first half.”
Arkansas-Pine Bluff built a 12 points lead at 12-0 to start the contest as they played stifling defense and converted several points in transition.
UAPB will look to take sole possession of first place in the conference on Monday night when they take the hardwood against Alabama State at H.O. Clemmons Arena at 7:30 pm.
